Cole Briggs is a fourth-generation rancher on Trails End Ranch, which his great grandfather founded in 1892. Cole’s father, a very forward thinker, started artificial insemination (AI) in 1964. He was among a group of cattlemen who were the very first in the United States to do that. Cole’s father sent him to AI school when he was 14 years old. For almost 50 years he has been and still is providing AI service for his ranch and many surrounding ranches. During this time, his father brought several reproductive physiologists and veterinarians to the ranch with the idea of continuing Cole’s education. Cole became proficient at palpating uterine tracts of cows to detect pregnancies/opens.
In 1996, Cole purchased his first ultrasound of cost of $32,000. The purchase was geared mainly toward carcass evaluation of cattle. He attended classes at Tennessee University and Iowa State. In 1998, he purchased a reproduction probe and began predicting calving dates on heifers. As the business grew, he traded ultrasound machines several times, comparing the results. When his youngest children were still in high school, Cole decided to try and raise their interest in ultrasound technologies. He hired a veterinarian from New York State to come to South Dakota to teach a class at his ranch. What Cole realized from this venture was his own level of expertise and that he enjoyed empowering young people to be able to diagnose pregnancy/non-pregnancy in cattle.
With this realization in 2005, Cole began spreading his knowledge by selling ultrasounds to beef producers and veterinarians. Along with the purchase of the ultrasound, Cole provided training services and education. He understands technology is coming to the corral and given the affordable price and convenience, he continues to enable more and more beef producers to utilize ultrasound technology.
The equipment is made in the USA. It’s state-of-the-art technology and is available for purchase from Ranchland Technologies. This high-end machine is easy to use, reasonably priced and built for the corral.
The most popular selling ultrasounds are the EVO II, the IBEX Pro, the IBEX Pro-C, and the IBEX Pro-R.
